An Origin Story…

Once upon a time (in college in the 90’s) I was introduced to the healing art of Reiki and it changed my life. Through a series of events I co-founded The Reiki School and Clinic so I could share it with as many beings as possible but also because I didn’t know a lot of people who did it and I wanted more people to talk about it with.

Everyday I worked tirelessly doing what I loved, and I discovered that to be successful I also had to learn how to teach and how to run a business. I spent years learning all about things like finance, marketing, communications, strategic thinking, branding, building systems, operations, management, event planning, team building, community development and collaboration. I even went back to school and got a Masters in Education. In order to make money while the business was growing I did other jobs on the side; I’ve been a preschool teacher, public elementary school teacher, server, kids yoga instructor, and even a model for artists! I learned a lot about how people tick.

One day I realized that 15 years had gone by and my dream had become a successful reality- I no longer needed side gigs, I had a location in Philly, a satellite in South Jersey, lectured locally and nationally, and had programs at places like Penn Medicine, the SPCA (Reiki with animals is wild! Pun intended) and Thomas Jefferson University.  I still had many other things I wanted to do with my life so over time and with careful consideration I sold the business to a group of staff and students and moved to New Mexico where I retired for 2 years.

Because of that I had a lot of free time. I found myself diving deeper into my Buddhist practice. I also found myself helping out friends and colleagues with their businesses, practices and projects.

Because of that when I returned to the world of work I found myself in some incredible situations, helping bigger organizations clarify their vision, actualize it, and operationalize it. I worked full time in each role, thinking it would wind up being my long-term or forever job.

Until finally I realized that I like projects. I like helping people actualize their visions. I like collaborating, looking deeply to find the places where a person or organization needs support, filling in the gaps, building the thing or doing the thing or finding the right people to do the thing and them moving onto another thing.

And that’s how Kim Fleisher Consulting was born. You might say I’m more of a contractor than a consultant though.

I don’t just tell you what to do, I actually help you do it.

Who Am I?

Kim Fleisher (she/her)

What an existential question.

I believe we have not been put on this earth to waste time and I am dedicated to using my gifts and talents to serve the collective. I prioritize projects, people and organizations that are dedicated to social responsibility, equity, community building and transforming racist, ableist, heteronormative, sexist and other oppressive practices. An org, group or person doesn't necessarily have to do this as a focus of their outward facing work, but they have to be dedicated to this as part of their inner work culture.

Much of my life’s work has been about raising up beautiful, meaningful visions, particularly those that require community building and translating nuanced concepts across boundaries. I’ve gotten a lot of pleasure and satisfaction from making things happen that many argued was impossible. The Chinese proverb that serves as my North Star is, “Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it.” My personal slogan for showing up to work each day is, “Plan as well as possible and expect the unexpected.”

I enjoy opportunities to consult and collaborate. I believe that success comes from cultivating strong relationships centered in care. I love finding creative solutions to challenges, innovating, bringing new ideas to life, community building, and helping build solid systems, operations, teams and communications. I enjoy supporting visions worth investing in!

I am a long time mindfulness practitioner and ordained practitioner in Zen Master/peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village Tradition. I have been practicing Reiki, meditation and yoga for over 25 years and am committed to disrupting the ways these communities (particularly in the west) replicate issues found in our wider consumer, capitalist culture.

I’m also a former preschool/public elementary school teacher with a master’s degree in early childhood/elementary education. I appreciate that the latin root of the word “educate,” means, “to draw out.” I like helping people pick their own pockets to find the gems inside.

I thrive in the intersection of art, music, play, movement, community, self-cultivation, and social justice. I am interested in doing things that lead us towards collective liberation. Often you will find me outside with my very good dog, Pax, who has one white sock, lots of toe-fur and a charming disposition.
